Jilin Shenhua Group’s 300,000-ton/year propylene oxide project is currently under construction in full swing. The project introduces the world’s leading, clean and environmentally friendly HP PO technology jointly developed by Evonik Degussa and Uhde. The total investment of the project is 2.5 billion yuan, covering an area of 300,000 square meters. It broke ground on April 20, 2012, and has entered the final stage of process piping and equipment installation. There are currently 360 employees. It is expected to be officially launched on October 15, 2013. into production. Fan Shuquan said: “After the project is successfully put into operation, it can realize an annual sales income of 3.8 billion yuan, which will open up an industrial chain for the development of new materials in Jilin Province, and will become the propylene oxide device with the largest production capacity in the country.”

However, in recent years, polyether polyols, like other chemical raw materials, are facing continuous expansion of production capacity and intensified competition in the industry. Fan Shuquan has a more comprehensive view on this issue: “Overall, the domestic production capacity of ordinary soft foam polyether has basically reached Meet the demand of the domestic market, and tend to be surplus. But rigid foam polyether, high activitysoft foam polyether, CASE polyether and special polyether still cannot meet the domestic demand, especially for the production of low-VOC polyurethane products for furniture and automotive products Polyether raw materials still need to be further developed, and domestic products still have a certain gap with international products in terms of performance and other technical requirements. Therefore, China still needs to import a large amount of high-end polyether from abroad every year, and high-end products still have broad development in China space.”
Fan Shuquan also revealed that in order to solve the contradiction between supply and demand of high-end polyether products, Jilin Shenhua Group intends to introduce polyether and grafted polyether production technology to Spain’s Repsol Company. Repsol’s polyether production originated in 1972. In the past 40 years, Repsol has accumulated rich experience in its equipment operation and process technology. Repsol has a technical center integrating research, development and technical service activities. Technical enhancement, relying on proprietary technology and know-how, gives Repsol a leading edge in the field of propylene oxide and derivatives.
In addition to the 300,000 tons/year propylene oxide project, the company’s ongoing projects include 370,000 tons/year polyether polyol project, 120,000 tons/year Polymer polyol project and 35,000 tons/year Diol polyether project are expected to be completed and put into operation in mid-2014.
