The melting point of AES refers to the temperature at which AS changes from solid to liquid at a certain temperature. Generally speaking, the melting point of AES is around 50°C. At high temperatures (above 50 degrees Celsius) or in acidic (pH 5) environments, alkyl ether sulfates may decompose. The reason for decomposition is due to the hydrolysis of alkyl ether sulfates. Without a viscosity modifier, if AES is diluted into an aqueous solution containing 30% or 60% active substance, a highly viscous gel will often result. Do not add water to highly active ingredients as this may cause gel formation.
