Repsol adds a range of chemically recycled ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) to its Reciclex portfolio
copolymer. The Spanish petrochemical giant said it is the first product on the market to use 100% chemically recycled vinyl acetate (VA).
Previously, Repsol invested 26 million euros to install a new Reciclex production line in the Puertollano Industrial Park in Spain. The company said the factory, where the Primeva range of traditional EVA is produced, is critical to the development, testing and final production of new solutions.
According to Repsol, the Reciclex product portfolio includes polyolefins and polyols obtained through chemical recycling, using plastic waste streams that cannot be mechanically recycled and would otherwise end up in landfills. The new EVA series has been adopted
ISCC Plus mass balance method certification.
Repsol said in a statement: “This chemical recycling solution is particularly suitable for EVA applications where mechanical recycling cannot be used due to the properties required of the end product. With this new range, Repsol ensures products suitable for use in food contact products, cosmetics or medical Sensitive applications such as the healthcare industry.”
The Recyclex product portfolio will soon also include polyols obtained through the chemical recycling of polyurethane waste. Repsol is building a new polyurethane foam recycling plant in the Puertollano industrial park, the first in the Iberian Peninsula, which is expected to be operational in 2023.
Repsol’s investments and new product portfolio comply with recent European and Spanish regulations targeting a 30% recycled content target for plastic packaging by 2030.
